In logical expressions, brackets indicate the need to evaluate the expression within the brackets first and then to treat it like a unit.
Yes, Sandy, and if you can't see either the beginning or the end of the bracket then evaluation is jammed - and text is moved a little more towards the image pole of the fluctuation between text and image
